Gift Mashaba, known by his stage name DJ Dadaman, is a South African DJ, producer, and pioneer of Bacardi music. Born and raised in Atteridgeville, Pretoria, Dadaman has been shaping the sound of township dance music since the early 2000s.
His journey into music began in 2003, when he started experimenting with production using a family computer. Despite limited resources, his passion drove him to create beats and record tracks, often working in secret until he could afford his own equipment. By 2005, he was producing and distributing his own CDs locally, building a name for himself in the streets of Pretoria.
Dadaman quickly became known for his infectious rhythms and signature sound, earning the nickname “MabaShghubu”—The Hitmaker. He played a key role in forming Team Bacardi in 2010 alongside Mapentane and JD Monate, releasing popular tracks like Fororo, Wele Wele, and Ma Traffic. In 2015, he expanded his influence by founding Team Skorokoro, a collective that delivered street anthems such as Seven ke Skelem and Phusha Skorokoro.
Over the years, Dadaman has collaborated with a wide range of artists across genres, including hip-hop, kwaito, and Amapiano. His work with names like Khuli Chana, Thebe, and DJ Maphorisa reflects his versatility and commitment to evolving South Africa’s dance music landscape.
From local street parties to international stages, Dadaman continues to push Bacardi music forward, blending tradition with innovation. His dedication to the craft and deep roots in Pretoria’s music scene make him a respected figure and a true ambassador of township sound.
